Features

Cois na hAbhna, our presence in Co. Clare, houses the Comhaltas Regional Archive in its Sean Reid Library. It also has an auditorium for céilí dances and concerts, a traditional-style Irish kitchen where lively sessions are held throughout the year and classrooms for music lessons. The centre was substantially upgraded in 2007 to include a Conference Room and a Teach Cheoil. The Teach Cheoil is regulary used for set dancing classes and also additional traditional sessions.

A medium tempo session is held in the Teach Cheoil each Friday night commencing at 8.30pm. Many of the tunes played are taken from the Comhaltas Foinn Seisiún books and CDs which can be purchased at the session. This session reverts to a “normal tempo” one from 9.30pm or so onwards and all musicians are more than welcome to attend.

Cois na hAbhna holds a number of Comhaltas Books and CDs, one of which is the 1959 Laichtín Naofa Céilí Band recording re-released as a CD in 2007. The recent recording of West Clare songs and music by Miltown Malbay’s Michael Mahony titled “On Malbay’s Shore” is also now available from the Centre. Session in Cois na hAbhna

Get the New Year off to a perfect start by joining us in Cois na hAbhna, Ennis, Co Clare for a traditional session this Friday night (2 January). Whether you’re a musician, singer, dancer or just want to listen to some good Irish traditional music, then this is the place for you.

Fleadh Nua in Full Swing!

A very special concert takes place in Cois na hAbhna on Wednesday night featuring Seán Ó Sé and the Turloughmore Céilí Band.

The band is from Clare and the name is inspired by the landscape and geology of the northern part of the County. The music reflects the styles of County Clare. Together with the legend that is Seán Ó Sé the night will consist of the presentation of a series of songs in both Irish and English drawn from their new recording.
