The Cork County Fleadh 2008 will be held in Macroom from May 9-11, 2008. The organising branch Aghinagh CCE are working hard to ensure a great weekend of traditional music in the popular West Cork venue. The event will bring 1,000 competitors to the town and to ensure that everything runs smoothly and efficiently requires the appointment of adjudicators, clerks, doorkeepers, programme sellers, parking officials, signage, etc., and of course close liaison with the local town council and gardaí. The traditional fleadh competitions will be held on Saturday, May 10, and Sunday, May 11, with the competitions being held in three town centre venues – McEgan College, The Briery Gap and Macroom GAA Pavilion. The winners of the competitions will go on to represent Cork at the Munster fleadh to be held in Kenmare in July. In addition to the competitions, there are several concerts arranged as well. On Thursday, May 8, there will be an Oiche Amhráinaíochta (singers’ club) in the Lee Valley Hotel with Tim Joe O’Riordan and Ann providing the music. The fleadh concert will be held at the Briery Gap Theatre on Saturday, May 10. Fundraising pre-fleadh seisiún will be held in the Lee Valley Hotel on Friday, May 2, and at the Castle Hotel on Saturday, May 3, next.
